Durable Severe Service shock absorbers have a larger bore for greater working capacity and arc-welded mounts for higher tensile strength. Some Severe Service units are Load Assist shocks for extra rear support, similar to Monroe's Load levelers. (note that this picture is a generic one and the actual part will differ slightly).
